May 2005 – An Insight into
Hi
Everyone,
We
have arrived safely back in Botswana after a very successful mission trip to
Mozambique and a 12 hour drive home yesterday.
We had a safe journey back but came across a freshly killed warthog! A car in front had just run over it and there
were intestines and liver strewn over about 20m of the road! Something you don’t come across everyday, and
African experience we won’t forget in a hurry.
We
had a wonderful time at the Orphanage ‘Iris’ with Hannah. She is such a great woman and has given up so
much to serve God and the kids of Mozambique.
We had a lot of laughs together and it was lovely to get to know her
better. She is extremely busy with 70
boys to look after and it was great that she could take the time out to spend
time with us. She is such a blessing to
those kids and we just loved being with her.
The
kids at Iris are fantastic. There are
about 500 in total, mainly boys who have been kicked out of home and were
living on the streets until Iris took them in.
They are now being fed three meals a day and going to school, most
importantly though, they have met Jesus Christ as their Saviour. It was a wonderful experience.
Steve
and I spent the days playing soccer and basketball with the boys and with
Hannah. We just wanted to be a blessing
to her and her boys. They are great
kids! We also had opportunity to
minister at the Youth group, Thursday night church service, Jails, boys
homegroup, church at the rubbish dump and speak at the street ministry. God really is doing some great stuff in
Mozambique.
We
also took three of the girls (Carol, Leti & Pearl) from our youth group and
they did very well. After a few hiccups
early on, they really related well to the kids and we saw them grow throughout
our time there. It was fantastic. They also experience the beach for the first
time in their lives as they hadn’t left Botswana before and it is a land-locked
country. It was well worth the time and
expense to go to Iris.
I
have attached a few photos of our time there.
Please keep in touch and let us know how you are all doing!
Lots
of love,
Jules & Steve
