March 2005........Arrival in Africa

Welcome to Selebi Phikwe, Botswana

Our Arrival in Botswana in early March has seen us very busy as we have had to do all the many things that need to be done when settling in a new country.

Rod & Lynley met us at the airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, to take us across the border and help us through the whole immigration/customs process.  The 6 hour drive took us north near Pretoria and then northwest to the closest border crossing.  We then stamped our passports as ‘Tourists’ until we are able to receive our work permit and waiver once we are in the country.  Yet another process we must go through as we settle in and make Botswana our home!

On arrival in Selebi Phikwe we have much to do.  Julie already spoke to a ladies meeting at the church the day after we arrived.  The first Sunday at church…………. We then have a busy few weeks as we buy a reliable car/ute, find a flat/house and buy all the furniture, stove, fridge and utensils etc we need.  A real provision has come from those in the church here who have already supplied us with a bed and blankets!  We are extremely grateful to their assistance!

Julie will fly back to Australia as planned to be a bridesmaid at her sister Sonia’s wedding on the 24th March.  It is a blessing as Julie is able to return to Africa with more of our belongings that we weren’t able to fit in our luggage when we first arrived.  I am sad that I will not be able to attend the wedding but know it will be a great celebration of the marriage of Nathan and Sonia.  Have a great day guys!

Your continued prayers are a huge help.  Julie and I gain strength from the knowledge that many back in Australia still remember us and are lifting us up in prayer.  Requests we have at this time:

·        Adapt quickly to the Botswanan culture

·        Find a reliable vehicle and house at a good price

·        A successful transition into a new church environment and ministry

·        Travelling mercies for Julie, and for Steve left behind in Africa in late March!

Thank you for your thoughts, prayers and support.

Love from,

Steve and Julie
